The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center is preparing to host a new event “Inked in History”, a commemoration for the 20th anniversary of the legalization of tattooing in Oklahoma.
This event will take place on Friday, Nov. 13 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Admission for this event will be included with regular admission to the museum.
Former Oklahoma Gov. Brad Henry signed Senate Bill 806 into effect on Nov. 1, 2006, making Oklahoma the last state in the US to legalize tattooing. During this event, attendees will learn about the history of tattooing in Oklahoma, the role Indigenous cultures played in shaping that history and you will also get to speak to Oklahoma tattoo artists.
Attendees will also have the chance to get flash tattoos by one of the artists. Anyone wanting to get a tattoo must be 18 years old or older and have a valid ID on hand. Tattoos are first-come, first-serve and are a separate fee payable to the artist themselves. The CSRHC does not have an ATM, so attendees are advised to come prepared.
