Senate Bill 1215 was unanimously approved by the Oklahoma Senate to remove the deadline for disabled veterans to submit their form to receive a sales tax exemption.
Senator Brenda Stanley, Midwest City-R, gave her statement regarding the bill.
“Many Oklahoma veterans have not been able to qualify for the sales tax exemption they’re entitled to because they missed the cutoff to enroll in the veterans registry,” Stanley said. “The requirements put in place were never intended to result in permanent disqualification if not met. The last thing we want is for our veterans to miss out on the benefits they’ve rightfully earned, so my legislation removes this deadline without impacting the registry.”
The Oklahoma Veterans Registry was originally created in 2017 to assist veterans in finding available programs and benefits, as well as reducing fraud and wasteful spending.
SB 1215 now moves to the Oklahoma House of Representatives for further consideration.
