EnidLIVE! news director Colby Talley had the chance to sit down with Oklahoma State ambassador for 4-H Aubrey Marrero to talk about upcoming events and what her role within the youth development organization entails.
Marrero, a Cherokee and Alfalfa County native, displayed a clear and obvious passion for her role as ambassador, a role she worked hard to obtain.
“To be an ambassador, you have to be at least 13 years of age, you have to be a really active 4-H member…you have to fill out an application form, and if your application gets accepted , you then have to do an extemporaneous speech, an interview and a written correspondence sample,” Marrero said. “The first year I applied, I did not get past the application process, which was a tough pill to swallow. But I got [accepted] this year and I got to do the interview and speech…it was a whole lot of fun.”
Marrero also spoke eagerly about some upcoming events where she will have more opportunities to proudly represent the 4-H organization.
“One of my duties as ambassador is to get more visibility for 4-H,” Marrero said. “We just finished up our county fair…I got to show my critters. We’re know getting ready for the state fair [where] I will get to show my dairy heifers and I’m bringing three Jersey cows!”
