Following the approval of a petition that received 276 valid signatures, the recall of Ward 1 City Commissioner Judd Blevins is set to proceed.
The number of signatures needed for the petition to be approved was 243, or 30% of the votes from the Feb. 14 election earlier this year where Blevins beat out the late Jerry Allen for a seat on the city counsel.
“We felt pretty secure,” said Kristi Baldwin, chair of the Enid Social Justice Committee, the organization that established the petition. ” It was pretty easy to do. I’m looking forward to the next election.”
The Enid Social Justice Committee has been arguably Blevins’ most ardent opponent since an article from Right Wing Watch in 2019 accused the commissioner of being the Oklahoma state coordinator for Identity Evropa, identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a white nationalist group which has since disbanded.
Blevins gave a email statement regarding the recall.
“I am absolutely confident that the voters of Ward 1 will reaffirm the decision they made on February 14, that I am the best candidate to represent them, and that I share their values, concerns, and their hopes hopes for the future of Enid.”
The date for the recall election will be set at the next city counsel meeting.
