Bernice Simmons
1940 - 2026

Bernice (Corkill) Simmons, born on September 9, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas, peacefully departed this world on September 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Her passing marks the end of a beautiful chapter in the lives of those who knew her, yet her spirit and love will continue to illuminate their paths.

Born to Fred and Ruby Corkhill, Bernice was feisty, fiercely loyal, and deeply devoted to her people. She shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, Billy Lee Simmons, whom she married on October 8, 1958. Together, they built a family rich in love and memories, nurturing six children, who in turn blessed them with a bountiful legacy: 26 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice was preceded in death by many beloved family members, including her parents, siblings, one son, a granddaughter, a great-grandson, and her beloved Billy, the love of her life. Her family takes solace in the thought of her joyous reunion with them, even as they mourn their loss.

Bernice had a zest for life that was evident in the simple yet profound pleasures she cherished. She poured her heart into her family, finding her greatest joy in their company. Her grandchildren were especially dear to her, and she relished every moment spent nurturing and creating lasting memories with them.

Her vibrant personality shone through the care she took in her appearance. Whether having her hair and nails done or adorning herself with her favorite jewelry, Bernice found happiness in these moments of self-care. Her love for Western movies and country music often filled her home with joy and laughter, as she delighted in these cherished pastimes.

A talented gardener, Bernice tended to her flower beds with love, finding peace and beauty in nature. Her gentle care extended to her animals, who were as much a part of her family as her own children.

Bernice’s legacy is a tapestry woven from love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to her family. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

A graveside service will take place on October 11, 2026 at 3:00 pm at the Kremlin Cemetery, where all are welcome to celebrate her life and love she so generously shared.

Brenice will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by her family and friends.
