1955 - 2026
Janice Raelene Porter Jones passed away peacefully at her home following a brief illness on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the age of 70.
Janice was born on August 7, 1955, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Dwight and Virginia Adeline Carson Porter. Arriving several months early, her survival was nothing short of a miracle, and her mother was not able to hold her until she was over two months old—a testament to Janice’s strength from the very beginning.
During her childhood, Janice’s family moved several times before eventually settling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She graduated from Broadmoor High School in 1973 and went on to pursue her love of creativity through ceramics, arts, and crafts. It was through her first ceramics shop that she met her husband of 37 years, George “Lewis” Jones. They married in 1984, and Janice lovingly embraced his three children—Steve, Jeff, and Lori—as her own. In 1986, they welcomed their daughter, Nikki, who quickly became the center of Janice’s world—until 2008, when she discovered the incomparable joy of becoming a Nana.
Janice’s creative spirit flourished through her arts and crafts booth, “Country Nik Naks,” which she operated at shops and fairs and later expanded to include antiques and country-style goods. In the mid-1990s, she became the manager of the Pine Grove Group Home with Hammond Strawberry Fields. Her deep compassion and natural caregiving were evident in this role, and she continued serving others in various capacities within the organization until her medical retirement.
In her later years, Janice devoted herself tirelessly to caring for those she loved—supporting Nikki through postpartum depression, caring for Lewis during his battle with dementia, tending to her father following his paralysis, and assisting her mother in her final years. There was rarely a moment when Janice was not thinking of or caring for someone else.
After the passing of her mother in late 2025, Janice made the decision to return to her hometown of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Though her time there was brief, her presence was deeply felt. Janice was the embodiment of selflessness, living her life guided by a strong Christian faith. She loved without condition and believed family extended far beyond blood.
She is survived by her aunt, Della Rein; her sister, Julie (Richard) Hiney; her brother, Jerry Porter; her daughter and son-in-law, Nikki and Bryan DeOliviera; and her beloved grandchildren, Adalinne, Porter, and Evangeline DeOliviera. She is also survived by her sons, Steve (Leila) and Jeff (Dawn) Jones; her daughter, Lori Jones; her honorary daughters, Christie Marchiafava, Linda Glaviano, and Callie Zurovetz; her nieces, Courtney, Christina, and Carleigh Hiney; her honorary grandchildren, Adah, Koda, and Briar; along with many close cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Kristin Rein, Kim Meadows, Becky McCoy, and Lori Jones for their devoted care and support during Janice’s final months.
Janice’s ashes will be interred with her husband, Lewis, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. No formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a local food bank in honor of Janice’s lifelong spirit of selfless love.
