Kenneth Gerald McCormick
1953 - 2026

Kenneth G. “KG” McCormick, 72, of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away after a life that was anything but boring. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, Ocotber12, 2026, at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel, with Rev. Jim Edmison officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00-6:00 pm at funeral home.

KG was born November 23, 1953, in Louisa, Kentucky, to Bernice Jennings. At a young age, he moved to Liberal, Kansas, where he began what would become a long and colorful career in the pipeline business. At the age of 15, KG entered the pipeline world—and apparently decided there was no reason to ever get a “normal” job. He eventually earned his GED and continued working his way across the United States. During his career, KG spent 37 years welding and another 19 years as a welding inspector for numerous pipeline companies. His work took him to more places than most people could name, and along the way he collected stories, friends, and probably a few things he probably should have left where he found them. KG moved to Enid, later spent time in Medford, and on November 10, 1997, married Sherry Simpson in Arkansas. The two eventually made Enid their home. If you knew KG, you knew one thing for certain: he never met a stranger. He enjoyed life, enjoyed people, and was rarely short on an opinion—whether anyone had asked for it or not. KG was an accomplished pool player and loved spending time at the casino. He also enjoyed Facebook, where he freely shared his thoughts, observations, and opinions. He had a special talent for saying exactly what was on his mind and apparently had no concern whatsoever about whether it upset anybody. In fact, upsetting somebody may occasionally have been considered a bonus. KG was also a true wheeler and dealer. If it could be bought, sold, traded, swapped, bartered, or negotiated, KG was interested. The goal was always to make a deal. Whether he actually made any money on the deal was apparently a secondary consideration. KG was famously hard of hearing, despite owning several sets of hearing aids. Those hearing aids were apparently more of a suggestion than a solution. If you wanted to talk to KG, you had better make sure he was looking at you—or be prepared to repeat yourself several times. He was also a devoted animal lover, especially when it came to his dogs. They knew they were loved, spoiled, and probably had a better chance of getting KG’s attention than most humans did.

KG leaves behind his wife, Sherry; his children, Robert (Stephanie) McCormick, Cynthia (Carlisle) McCormick, Ryan (Sepideah) McBurnett, Courtney (Matthew) Crow, Lacey McBurnett, Trey (Jenny) Benton, and Jarred (Nancy) Benton; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Cassandra (Dennis) Richardson; and numerous other family members, friends, and members of the many “families” KG collected throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Jennings; sister Candy Shoemate; grandparents, James and Lucy Adams; and, as KG would probably tell you himself, several members of his pipeline and pool families.

KG lived life on his own terms. He worked hard, traveled far, played pool a lot, gambled a little, made plenty of deals, shared plenty of opinions, loved his dogs, and never let a stranger remain a stranger for very long.

He leaves behind a lot of memories, a lot of stories, and probably a few unfinished deals.

And if there happens to be a pool table, a casino, or a good deal waiting for him on the other side, we have no doubt KG has already found it.
