Mary Kathryn (Hengel) Clay
1927 - 2026

Kay was born in Fargo, North Dakota. She moved with her parents at the start of the Great Depression, in an old Model T, to Gallup, New Mexico, where she was raised and where she met and married Robert Clay, who preceded her in death after more than 50 years of marriage. After her marriage to Robert, she left Gallup to live in Albuquerque and Clovis, New Mexico. She then lived for 10 years in Anchorage, Alaska, before returning to Albuquerque and later moving to Ponca City, Oklahoma, where she made her home for the past 30 years Kay was a loving mother to seven children: Coleen Cook of Augusta, Georgia; Kerry Hancock of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Richard Clay of Rimrock, Arizona; Kenny and Theresa Clay of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Chuck Clay of Wichita, Kansas; Kelly Hartless and Johnny Wilson of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and Gary Clay (preceded in death) of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was the beloved grandmother of nine grandchildren — Tammy, Robbie, Tracy, Chris, Shawn, Ryann, Travis, Nikki, and Caitlin — seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister, Dallas Schuller. The Clay family would like to thank the staff at Shawn Manor for the wonderful care and support Kay received over the past two years, the residents there for their kind friendship to our mother, and Bobby Hartless for his love and support. Kay’s ashes will be interred in her hometown of Gallup, New Mexico.

We love and miss you, Mom.
