In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Cherokee Head Football Coach, Bryce Schanbacher, to discuss the upcoming matchup against Timberlake.
The coach started off by discussing how the scrimmages went:
“We went over to Medford and scrimmaged them, and it was just us and Medford there, and we got a lot of reps, good quality reps over there too, and I was pleased. I think all of us coaches collectively thought that the kids did a really good job. You know, there’s always going to be things, especially when…you watch on film…you see things that you’ve got to get better at. I thought our kids performed well for the first scrimmage out. The effort was there, good intensity and attitude.”
Coach Schanbacker assessed the Timberlake Tigers and gave some insight on how the team will fare against them.
“They’re just so athletic everywhere, they’ve got a lot of tremendous athletes with good speed, and Coach Severin does an amazing job there, and he’s a hall of fame coach now and has been running a lot of the same stuff for a long time. And so those kids, they’ve been running a lot of those things since fifth and sixth grade, and they know what he wants and how he wants it done. That’s pretty obvious when you watch them on film; they don’t make a lot of mistakes.”
