On Tuesday, February 16th, the Enid School Board voted to have the Enid Plainsmen Football team play an independent schedule in 2026. The move follows a season where the Plainsmen went 0-10 and landed new Head Football Coach Chris Elerick.

An independent football schedule would give the Plainsmen a chance to compete as they rebuild their program after a couple of rough years in 6A-1. The move will need to be approved by the OSSAA, 9 schools including Enid, are requesting to be allowed to play an independent schedule. The OSSAA’s stance on the matter is currently unclear. If denied, Enid will once again play in 6A-1 Oklahoma’s largest classification for football.
