CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Hennessey Head Baseball Coach Tanner Black to talk about summer baseball and the upcoming series against the Plainsmen.

Coach Black began by discussing how the offseason has been as a whole:

“It’s been really good. We got to play in that tournament when we were young. A lot of these guys haven’t played in that type of tournament before, so it was good for us. We played through the Majors, we played Enid High. We did some good things, but I think our inexperience in some areas ended up hurting us in some of those games…Our goal is to get better this summer. If we go into those tournaments and we consume ourselves trying to win those tournaments and we lose sight of the main goal, and our main goal is to win the state championship every year.”

The coach continued about how the team has been improving throughout the season:

“You have to play good people because it allows your guys to step up and play at a different level. And then if you watch college baseball, you [look] at Oklahoma and they play arguably in the best conference in college baseball…As you keep playing good teams, your players start to play harder and play faster, they get better, and they know what it takes to win those games.”
