Per Nick Friesen and the Enid News and Eagle, the OSSAA approved an independent schedule for the Enid Plainsmen Football team during the 2026-2027 Football seasons. The Plainsmen during District Play will be able to play other independent programs instead of their originally scheduled 6A-1 District opponents.
However, finding in-state opponents who are available during district play may prove a challenge for the Plainsmen. If Enid is unable to find alternate opponents to play, then the Plainsmen could still face their originally scheduled opponents in 6A-1. These games would be recorded as a forfeit for the Plainsmen upon completion.
The Plainsmen will also be ineligible for the playoffs during the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
