In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the new Enid Head Football coach, Brad Cornelsen, to preview the upcoming matchup against Ponca City.
The coach wanted to share his journey before coming to coach in Enid.
“I went to college to play college football and always knew I wanted to coach. [I] grew up in a family of high school coaches, always dreamed of doing [that]. When you get out of college, my coaches advised me to stay in college, be a graduate assistant, and stay in college as long as you can. So that’s what I did, and that journey took me on a 25-year run across the county and in a lot of different places. I had a wonderful time and coached with a lot of great coaches at good schools, and fortunate to coach a lot of great players. ”
Coach Cornelson gave some insight into Ponca City and what to expect.
“Watching their scrimmage from last week, I was impressed. They looked really good. Offensively, I really like what they do. Similar to what I like and what we’re doing, your quarterback’s involved in the run game, which always presents some challenges for the defense. Defensively, they base out of a 3-3 stack, which is always a little troubling to offensive coaches and the offensive line. They’ve got a good scheme. They look really improved to me from last year.”
