In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with OBA Head Girls Basketball Coach Randy Roth to discuss the upcoming area Tournament.
The coach highlights the value of experience and consistency in a successful team, particularly when it comes to avoiding the need for constant replacements and relying on a core group of players who have been through challenges together.
“It’s always a blessing to have a team that goes to the state championship game and not have any seniors. So, experience is a big key; the girls have been through wars together, and [that’s] always a nice thing to have. You don’t have to replace anybody; and on top of that, we gained some freshmen who have given us minutes this year off the bench. So [this] group of girls [have] been consistent, and that consistency lets you do a lot of things maybe you can’t do when you have to teach new girls things.”
Roth highlighted how spirited the team is, on or off the court.
“I’m tremendously blessed to get to work with this group of girls. They care about each other, and they care about a whole lot more than just basketball. They’re great people, and great human beings to be around and so I’m just blessed to get to work with them.”
