In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with
OBA Head Girls Volleyball Coach Randy Roth to preview the upcoming season.
The coach started off by sharing his goal of maintaining high expectations this season, despite the loss of a strong senior class, by helping new leaders step up and guiding the team toward another run at the state tournament.
“It’s going to be tough; we lost a great group of seniors. Many senior leaders have moved on with their lives, which is the way it works every year. And so we’re working through the preseason. This year, seniors are learning how to step up into that role of leadership, and so the goal is still the same, to still get to that final eight and go to the state tournament….”
The coach wanted to start the summer strong by hosting a Monday night volleyball league at OBA, inviting teams from Enid High, Chisholm, Ponca City, and Perkins for early competition and valuable court time.
“The first thing we do in June…we hosted a summer league here at OBA, and our friends from Enid High, Chisholm, Ponca City, and Perkins are starting a volleyball program. So a bunch of schools came over here, and we did a summer league on Monday nights here at OBA; and that was fun. We had some Monday nights in June where teams were here and all of us had the opportunity just to play, which was great. And I think it’s good for all of our programs just to get on the court a little bit. And so that’s how the summer “
