In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Okarche Warriors Head Boys Basketball Coach, Aaron West, to discuss the playoffs.
The coach went into detail describing what has led to the Warriors’ success this year:
“Yeah, we have 13 guys back from last year, so we do have eight seniors. We got great leadership on our team, guys that have started for four years, three years…They just come in ready to work, and we try to get better every day, and that’s kind of how they’ve taken it the last three or four years. Then we’ve got some great bench guys that have [come] in that are underclassmen this year that have done a great job off the bench for us as well. We play 11, 12, 13 guys and a half, so not a lot of teams do that. I’d like to keep it up for the playoffs, but throughout the year, that’s kind of what we’ve done. ”
Coach West shared the experience of challenging the team and preparing them for the postseason:
“I think it brings out and makes our guys know they had the success that they had. We are beatable if you don’t come [to] practice and work every day and take every day [seriously].
You can’t overlook anybody, but playing against better teams, teams that push us, it shows things that we need to work on. It shows how hard and how well we had to execute against extremely gifted teams that we played.”
