Heading into their district play opener against No. 2 Seiling (3-2) on Friday, the No. 3 Okeene Whippets (5-0) have proven themselves to be a true heavyweight in Class B-II.

EnidLIVE!’s Colby Talley had a chance to sit down with Whippets head coach Tanner Allen to discuss the season thus far and his squad’s big upcoming matchup.

Allen made it clear early in the interview that he holds the Wildcats program in high regard.

“I think Seiling is…top-three for sure, if not the best eight-man team in the state,” Allen said. “It’s going to be a different type of test. I would like to think we’re up there as well so we’re looking forward to it.”

Despite the challenge ahead, Allen also mentioned that his veteran-laden team is not about to shy away from the opportunity in front of them.

“I think they’re excited.” Allen said. “This is a lot of these guys’ last go around at them. We may or may not have another chance later in the year depending on how [the playoffs] play out…they wanna play in good games and this is as good as it gets.”

One big story for the Whippets has been the return of their senior starting quarterback William Woolley, who has yet to miss a beat since returning from injury a few weeks ago.

“Woolley’s a really good kid, he’s a smart player,” Allen explained. “He allows us to do a lot of different things offensively. Everything is a little faster when you’re playing Seiling…its going to be different for him.

Woolley will come into Seiling on Friday as the leader of an offense that is averaging exactly 50 points a game in 2025.

Okeene and Seiling will kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday night. Catch the game on CTB Sports 1390 KCRC, 1640 KZLS, the CTB Sports app and EnidLIVE!com.
