Okeene Girl’s Head Basketball Coach Patrick Penner Talks Matchup with Canton

Listen to the Game this Saturday on CTB Sport 1390 KCRC, 1640 KZLS, the CTB Sports App, and Enidlive.com

CTB Sports spoke with the Okeene Girl’s Head Basketball Coach Patrick Penner. Okeene is 8-10 on the season despite losing a ton of talent and experience from the team that made it to the area tournament a year ago.

Coach Penner spoke about what could be viewed as a rebuilding year by some saying “It’s gone pretty good, I didn’t know how it was gonna be when you lose that many really Julia’s the only one that’s come back with any real playing time”.

Okeene recently paired up with the number 1 team in Class B the Dover Lady Longhorns, a matchup they lost 65-24. Coach Penner spoke about some of the lessons learned in that game saying “We did some things right in that game, I kind of left a little frustrated because I felt like if we made some early bumps some easy shots, early on we could have been in it a little longer than what we were”.

Okeene will be taking on the Canton Lady Tigers who are ranked as the #12 Team in Class A. Okeene matched up with Canton earlier in the year with Canton coming out on top 52-26. Coach Penner spoke about Canton saying “It’s David Baldwin you don’t know what you’re gonna get with him” he went on to say “With Canton that’s always the challenge for me every year just dealing with him and the uncertainty of what he might do”.

Coach Penner spoke about what it will take to be victorious on Saturday saying “were gonna have to take care of the ball we’ve averaged too many turnovers this year, but the really big thing is we’ve got to hit shots”.
