In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Okeene Head Football Coach Tanner Allen to discuss the upcoming playoff rematch against Wilson-Henryetta.
The coach began by discussing what they’ve improved on after their loss against Wilson-Henryetta in last year’s playoffs:
“We were also just focused on getting better in certain spots that we knew we needed to get better at anyway. So that was, you know, the motivation I didn’t feel like was hard to find. We didn’t have to look too hard for it. I thought we were the better team last year, and we didn’t win. So, I think we’re better this year. I think the boys know what’s at stake. It’s kind of one of those deals that they hadn’t thought about: when it’s over, it’s over. A lot of these guys are seniors now, so I think they’re excited. I think they’re determined to go over there and get a win.”
Coach Allen gave some insight into the Whippets’ team:
“They’re a really athletic team. I think open field tackling and rallying to the ball is, is going to be a huge key… our kids are coached really well and, and not just from the football aspect. They’re all really good humans, and that makes it fun for everybody because the ultimate goal is sending these guys out into the real world and them being successful. And the coaches have, we got a lot of great coaches and I’m thankful for it.“
