In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Pioneer Head Football Coach Gus Overstreet to talk about the football offseason so far.
The coach reflects on the positive development and maturity of a sports team over the summer, highlighting how the progression from freshmen and sophomores to juniors and seniors has enhanced their skills, leadership, and confidence.
“Oh, they were fantastic. Just a year getting older, boys getting bigger, faster, stronger. I mean, it was a great summer, had all the great spring balls, had all the boys show up, went to camp, went to Palm Creek, competed well, played pretty vanilla, did the basics, and everything. Like I said, just age [helps] out a lot when you’ve been starting nothing but freshman and sophomore for the past two years. How they’re juniors and seniors, and it’s a good thing; their leadership’s a lot better, you have a lot more confidence.”
Coach Overstreet wanted to point out some players who have been performing well in practice.
“Colin O’Donnell stood out tremendously for us, especially defensively. Zia Falfa did a great job, Branson Doyle. And then I got to brag on my linemen, Gunnar Huddleston, Josh Kroeger, [and] Tyson Castile. [Those] three linemen boys they’ve been doing a really good job. They’re holding kids accountable…. “
