In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the Pond Creek-Hunter Head Football Coach Tanner Bowman to discuss the upcoming matchup against Laverne.
The coach began by congratulating the Panthers for their progress and good sportsmanship:
“I really think at the end of the day it just boils down to these guys, they just play so hard.
I think all season long, the amount of effort that these guys have given has just been outstanding. Something that we as coaches always talk about, we shouldn’t have to coach it, and these guys have you know, we haven’t had any problem with it. You know they play super hard on Friday night.
It’s really fun to see, and it’s really been fun to be a part of. They just play with a lot of energy, and you know they’ve been great teammates…I just can’t say more about how much fun this year’s been, and these guys, they’ve really [risen] up and played well together.”
Coach Bowman discussed Laverne’s path and what they’ve done:
“Laverne, [ever] since dropping out of eight-man in the mid-2000s, 2006, 2007, whenever it was, they’ve really been a constant force in the playoffs. They’re in the semifinals and state championship just about every year. Laverne’s [just] impressive, and every single year they reload. You know, there are a lot of guys who they lost off last year’s teams, and they just seem to replace them with guys that continue to do what they do. And Coach Cox does a great job out there. They’re a Laverne team, [highly] disciplined.”
