In this interview, CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with the South Haven Head Boys Basketball Coach Zach Norris to discuss the Rivalry Matchup against Caldwell.

The coach began by discussing the key to victory in this rivalry game:

“We’ve got to control the paint. That’s the big thing. We’ve got the height advantage on them. We’ve got to be able to control the paint offensively and defensively. We’ve got to win the rebounding more. We’ve got to win the turnover battle. Ultimately, whatever team can win those two things, I like their chances. Early offense has been a big thing for us lately against every opponent. And then just playing with some confidence. We’ve had a bad habit of being timid at times this season and kind of backing down to our opponent. So just playing with confidence, having urgency, those will be big things for us in that game.”

Coach Norris reflects on previous games and gives a takeaway:

“I think we still have better basketball to be played, but we’re playing our best basketball so far, which is nice to see.
There’s definitely still room for improvement. We don’t ever want to fall back on moral victories, but we lost to Oxford, who just won our league tournament. We lost to them by five. We were down double digits against Fairfield and forced overtime in that one. We had a one-point overtime loss early in the season…We’ve done our best to learn from it, and I think we’re starting to learn from it and starting to put that into action on the court.
