CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Enid Head Football Coach Chris Elerick to talk about the upcoming game against Capitol Hill.
The coach shared some insight on the team’s performance after coming off a loss to Bartlesville:
“Worst performance of the year. We’re not going to hide behind that; that’s not where we want to be, [or] expect to be. [But] there’s always a silver lining. There’s always good that comes with bad. You can’t grow unless you have some adversity. So we’re using this as a springboard to move forward into this week of practice and to be better each week than we were the week before…This week, we get some guy back, and we’re excited about the opportunity to get back on the field for sure.”
Coach Elerick shared some things that the team needs to do well against Capitol Hill:
“We need to do a better job using proper technique, proper leverage, getting multiple hats to the football, and getting guys on the ground for sure. Number two, not allowing somebody to run the football. We’ve got to do a better job at the line of scrimmage, closing gaps, closing holes, being explosive with our technique, getting after those guys, and making the ball bounce sideways, and not letting it run through the middle of our defense. And then in the secondary, keep guys in front of us, and if they do a complete pass, tackle them.”
