Reports have come in today that approximately 40 homes have been destroyed and 10 people have been injured following a tornado that swept through South Enid on Thursday evening.
The tornado, which is currently being estimated as an EF-4 and was on the ground for roughly 40 minutes, was spotted just south of Vance Air Force Base, and made its way northeast in the direction of Woodring Airport before stopping. There was no extensive damage reported at either Vance Air Force Base or Woodring Airport.
The hardest hit area was the neighborhood of Gray Ridge Estates and other surrounding subdivisions. Damage reported near Southgate Road and South 16th Street included destroyed homes and vehicles, as well as extensive debris.
Authorities are continuing to urge residents and motorists to stay out of the impacted areas as emergency crews continue to work.
For those looking to help people who have been displaced or impacted, a supply drop-off station has been set up in the north building of the Chisholm Trail Expo Center, with the doors for entry being on the west side of the venue under the three triangular canopies. Donations of food, water and clothes will be accepted, but all donations will require at least one point of contact.
Furthermore, the Red Cross and Emergency Disaster Relief from Oklahoma City have set up an entry form for anyone in the community who wishes to be involved in clean-up efforts following the authorities sweep of the impacted areas. That form can be found here.
