Full Interview with Cherokee Head Football Coach Bryce Schanbacher
2022 Record: 4-7
Key Returners: Kai Mchenry, Zach Hellar, Tony Macias
District B-2: OBA, Garber, Ringwood, Kremlin-Hillsdale, Pond Creek-Hunter,
The Cherokee Chiefs have a lot of talent coming back from last year’s team, especially phenom QB Kai McHenry. McHenry is one of the best athletes in Class B and has fellow skill players Zach Hellar and Tony Macias returning.
The Chiefs played one of the toughest schedules in the state and were better than a 4-7 record might suggest, however, it won’t be any easier this season. They have non-district road games against Dewar, Shattuck, and Seiling 3 of the top programs in Class B who all beat the Chiefs last season.
District play will be tough as well with almost any team having a chance to bring home 1st place. One of the games to watch will be their October matchup against Garber, last year’s contest went into 5 overtimes. While the schedule is tough, if Kai McHenry can lead his team against some of Class B’s best in the regular season, the Chiefs will be primed for a deep postseason run.
