Wrestling is coming back to Northern Oklahoma College, it has been announced that the Men’s Program will be returning for the 1st time since the 80s while the Women’s Program will be making its debut.

Coach Bryan Kenny will be coaching the Men’s Team while Coach Jayden Miller will be coaching the Women’s Team. Coach Miller spoke with CTB Sports and Enidlive.com about being the 1st Head Coach for the NOC Women’s Wrestling program.

Coach Miller spoke about what was appealing about NOC as a destination to start a program, “Tonkawa has that very family-eques environment everybody knows everybody, it’s a beautiful town surrounded by very very good wrestling”.

Coach Miller has experience coaching at the college level, at Southwestern Oregon Community College he worked as an assistant for the Men’s and Women’s Wrestling teams. With all the talent in the area, Coach Miller is confident the program will be able to hit the ground running “We can be very competitive right off the bat”.

Women’s Wrestling is a sport that has exploded in popularity in the last 10 years, Coach Miller said when he graduated from High School in Nebraska in 2016 there were 8 or 9 female wrestlers in the state, now there are hundreds.

When asked why he believes Women’s Wrestling has seen such tremendous growth, Coach Miller said “The girls are just as competitive as the men and they want to be competitive and show they can be competitive in a physical nature like wrestling”.

The Program will be making it’s debut at the NOC-Tonkawa campus in the fall of 2024 and will be having a Meet the Coaches event at NOC-Tonkawa during a Blackwell-Tonkawa Wrestling Duel on January 16th.
