The NOC Enid Jets open their basketball season Friday at 6 p.m. against Cowley (KS) at the Mabee Center. Coach Chris Gerber comes off an Elite 8 run last season and says the new team is ready for the challenge of living up to high expectations. Six players return, including Jaden Constant, Grant Barnard, Garrett Barnard, Kuaye Noah, Trace Duncan, and Ethan Brummett. Gerber says these returners have stepped up and will take on bigger roles. With 10 newcomers, nine of them freshmen, he points to Troy Bell, Jaylen Edwards, and Brendan Shaw as quick learners who have shown strong improvement.
Gerber says the team has grown since August and highlights their versatility both on offense and defense. He believes this group can guard multiple positions and score in several ways, though they will need to shoot well and play unselfish basketball to reach their potential. Gerber expects Region 2 to be tough again and says the Jets must stick to their strengths and execute each game. For more details and updates on the Jets, visit their website here.
