The Northwestern Oklahoma State softball team split a doubleheader against Newman, earning an 8-3 win in game one before falling 5-4 in game two.
The Rangers totaled 10 hits in the opener, with Makanalei Lapera delivering an RBI single and junior pitcher Katy Jones tossing four scoreless innings. After Newman briefly took the lead, Delaynie Esterly sparked a four-run fifth inning to secure the victory. In game two, Northwestern trailed 5-0 in the seventh before Gabrielle Sanchez hit a grand slam to cut the deficit to one, but the comeback fell short.
The Rangers return home this weekend to face Southwestern.
