Full Interview With Okeene Head Football Coach Tanner Allen

The Okeene Whippets will be taking on the Velma-Alma Comets at 1 pm in Western Heights, you can listen to the game on CTB Sports on My957 the KXLS App and Enidlive.com, pregame starts at 12:30 pm, while the kickoff will start at 1 pm.

Okeene is in the midst of a great season in the 1st year of new head coach Tanner Allen, the Whippets are already making a deep playoff run in the 1st year of Coach Allen. Allen has championship experience winning state Championships as a player at Laverne. He also led the Waynoka Railroaders to the Class C State Championship game last season where they were defeated by Tipton.

Allen has put together a great staff, on his staff is last year’s Whippets head football coach Reese Brickman, as well as former Whippets head football coach Jeff Wardlaw who won state championships at Okeene back when they played 11 man Football in the early 2000’s.

The Whippet’s playoff run has been led by the strong play of senior quarterback Brody Jinkens, Jinkens missed last season with an injury after getting hurt in overtime during the 1st game of the year against Pond Creek-Hunter.

It’s been an incredible comeback season for the Senior who leads a dangerous Whippets rushing attack. Jinkens had over 200 yards in a huge playoff win over the Yale Bulldogs. Also helping lead a dangerous run game is William Karbs a tough-nosed runner who makes his living inside, Harley Karbs and Luke Swartwood help round out the dangerous run attack. However, if you stop the run against Okeene they aren’t helpless.

Jinkens is a capable passer as well and has dangerous weapons in Bryer Roberts and Luke Swartwood who have each made some great catches this year. Another reason for the Whippet’s strong play is their excellent defense led by linebacker William Karbs and defensive back Brody Jinkens, both of whom have made the defensive CTB Sports Football All-Star team in the past.

Okeene will be matched up with a tough Velma-Alma Comets team, the Comets are led by one of the best quarterbacks in class B in Slade Strickland. Strickland has a lot of size for the position, a great arm, and sound decision-making, he can also make you pay with his feet.

Strickland has 1807 yards passing and 864 yards rushing, the Whippets will need to shut Strickland down if they want to be victorious.
