CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Pioneer Head Football Coach Gus Overstreet to talk about the upcoming game against Okeene; brought to you in part by Hedges Construction.
The coach began by sharing what has led to the team’s success this season:
“A lot of it is just leadership. The boys buying into what we’re doing. A lot of kids started their freshman year, and they got their teeth knocked in as freshmen and sophomores. They knew what it was going to take to be successful, and they bought into it, and we just keep grinding at it and doing the little things right.”
Coach Overstreet shared the game plan against the Okeene Whippets:
“To get hit in the mouth and them trying to make us like it. That’s something that we got to match…their intensity; we got to match their physical play. If we do that, everything will take care of itself. We’ve got to be the aggressor. We’ve got to be able to take care of the ball…make them make mistakes. That’s the thing: they’re the same caliber of teams we’re going to face in our district. If this is a good measuring stick for how we’re going to do in the district play, because they’ve played two of our district opponents already.”
