Timberlake Head Baseball Coach Garrett Powell Talks Upcoming Merrifield Tournament

Derek Darr with CTB Sports, sat down with Timberlake head Baseball Coach Garrett Powell, to talk about the upcoming Merrifield Tournament.

Coach Powell started by talking about how the team is feeling about the Tournament.

“The boys are obviously excited about it; this is one of the biggest tournaments of the year, the boys are looking forward to playing in it every year. This is no exception,” Powell said. “They’re looking forward to the opportunity to play (against) a lot of good teams.”

Powell then talked about some players that have stepped up this season.

“Payton Pierce, he has taken a leadership on the mount for us. He threw a lot of strikes. (I) love his mindset when he’s out on the field, “Powell said. “Paxton Glenn, 6’5″, 6’6″ sophomore, left-handed. He too is tall and great. We’ve got several guys like Chase Pierce that have got us some good innings on the mound. All of those guys are experienced on the plate.”

Powell finished off by talking about what the team needs to do to win the Merrifield Tournament.

“Throw strikes, the best pitch in baseball is strike one…we start out on top and we’ll be hard to handle. These kids are athletic…the challenge is that I’ll have nine boys out; we’re kind of low in baseball numbers this spring at our high school. But the challenge is throwing strikes and making sure you have enough arms to get through five games.”

The Merrifield Tournament will be broadcast on CTB Sports 1390 KCRC, 1640 KZLS, the CTB Sports App, and EnidLIVEcom! Be sure to tune in!
