The Garfield County Community Health Dept.’s Communications Coordinator Diana Hernandez sat down and shared tips for staying healthy during the summer season.
She began by talking about beating the Oklahoma heat. If you must go outside, dress in lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Limit your time outdoors and take breaks in air-conditioned areas such as stores. Never leave kids or pets in a parked vehicle.
If you notice someone experiencing symptoms of heatstroke, call 911 immediately, move them to a cooler place and help cool them down with cool clothes or a cool bath.
If you are 45 or older, getting screened for colorectal cancer can save your life. Screening can find polyps, which are small growths that can turn into cancer. Early screening can detect abnormalities and can aid in finding the proper treatment.
If July will fly by as quickly as June did, parents must prepare their kids for school soon. Be sure to have your kids’ birth certificates, shot records, immunizations, and Well-Child exams up-to-date and ready.
