Oklahoma Baseball finished an unforgettable postseason by claiming its third national championship with a dominant 13-2 win over North Carolina in the College World Series final. Before a crowd of over 23,000 at Charles Schwab Field, the Sooners delivered from the start, building an early lead and never looking back. Sophomore Kyle Branch and Junior Jaxon Willits powered the offense, each going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Willits, an Oklahoma native, was a top prospect at Fort Cobb Broxton before committing to Oklahoma in 2023. His brother Eli Willits was the #1 overall in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Branch collected a career-best six RBIs, including a three-run homer in his last at-bat, while Willits reached base five times and set a school record with 13 hits in the CWS, earning Most Outstanding Player honors. Support came from Dayton Tockey, Brendan Brock, and Dasan Harris, who each added two hits. On the mound, LJ Mercurius took over in the third inning and shut down North Carolina by allowing just one run over 5.2 innings, striking out five.
Oklahoma’s playoff run saw them take down several top national seeds, and their offense exploded for 14 hits in the championship game, including two home runs. The Sooners played sharp defense, including a key throw by Harris to stop a North Carolina rally early. With this victory, Oklahoma adds to its 1951 and 1994 titles and completes the season with a 43-23 record. Coach Skip Johnson praised his players for their approach and execution, emphasizing how the team believed in its talent from the start. The win not only cements this squad in Sooner baseball history but also gives fans plenty to celebrate as the team prepares for its championship event at Kimrey Family Stadium.
