The United State Air Force has chosen Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma as the fourth base to use the new T-7A Pilot Training System, representing $2 billion in both aircraft and facility upgrades.
The T-7A pilot training system will replace the T-38C training aircraft as a means of modernizing the training for Air Force pilots. Aforementioned upgrades will include new training aircrafts and updates to operations and supports facilities to aid the new system.
US Rep. Frank Lucas, R-OK, has said that Vance Air Force Base was chosen to due its large military operating area, fourth runway and lower costs for training pilots. Furthermore, Vance Development Authority chairman Michael Cooper said the new system may lead to increased personnel in Enid, meaning the city may need expanded alternative energy option, increased water resiliency and additional affordable housing.
