Full Interview with NOC Men’s Wrestling Coach Bryan Kenny

Northern Oklahoma College is bringing back its Men’s Wrestling Program, CTB Sports and Enidlive.com spoke with the new Head Men’s Wrestling Coach Bryan Kenny about this historic moment. Coach Kenny spoke about being hired saying “This is awesome, to say the least…” “I will be recruiting this semester and moving up this summer”.

Coach Kenny is a Gold Certified Coach in USA Wrestling, Kenny described the achievement as a “Doctorate in Wrestling” he is only the 97th recipient of Gold Certification in USA Wrestling history. Coach Kenny in addition to coaching the Men’s team will be assisting with the Women’s Wrestling program as well.

One of the challenges in helping with both programs is that the Men’s Team will be wresting Folk Style, the same style practiced in high school wrestling and Men’s Collegiate Wrestling, while the Women will be wrestling Freestyle, the same style wrestled in the Olympics.

However, Coach Kenny is confident that due to all the talent within a 100-mile radius of the Tonkawa campus, he will be able to hit the ground running and field a competitive program as soon as they make their debut in the fall of 2024.

Coach Kenny also has connections in the Wrestling World throughout the nation and anticipates that those connections will help his recruiting efforts as well. The NOC community has received news of the Wrestling Program’s revival with excitement.

Coach Kenny also sees it as a way to give many of the talented wrestlers, from the great wrestling programs in Northwest Oklahoma, opportunities to continue their careers that they may not otherwise receive due to too many talented athletes and not enough local collegiate programs for them to join.

Many talented wrestlers from the area will now have a chance to continue their careers that they may not have otherwise. The soft debut of the new Wrestling Programs will take place at a Meet the Coaches High School Duel between Tonkawa and Blackwell at NOC Tonkawa.

The Duel will take place on January 16th, both the Junior Highs and High Schools will be participating in this event.
