Big 12 Conference Commissioner Brett Yormark spoke to the media about the Big 12’s future and more.
He began by expanding on the Monster Energy sponsorship and where it will take the Big 12:
“I mentioned Monster Energy Big 12 Media Days. They’re going to help take us global. But more importantly, they’re going to activate this conference and elevate and amplify everything we do. They’re going to take us to retail, both regionally and nationally. They’re going to do TV campaigns, digital campaigns. So we’re excited about…the economics, but more importantly, where they’re going to take us.”
Yormark shared his perspective about commercial appeal:
“I’ve got a bit of experience; when I was the CEO of the Brooklyn Nets, I took our team to China, Mexico City, the UK, and I was a firm believer that you can drive fan engagement, you can reinforce your commercial appeal. And then from a recruiting standpoint, even in the NBA, that was critically important. But fast forward to the collegiate athletic space, 14% of our student-athletes come from outside the U.S.”
