The Pioneer Mustangs didn’t have an easy road to their 10th Merrifield Office Plus Invitational victory. After being blanked 2-0 by the Fairview Yellow Jackets, the odds of the Mustangs winning their 4th straight Merrifield seemed slim. However, the Mustangs got some help from the Alva Gold Bugs who downed Fairview in extra innings. Pioneer then took care of business defeating Alva 13-1 to set up a 3-way tie.

Pioneer won the tiebreaker putting them in the Championship Game against Kremlin-Hillsdale. The Broncs were a tough test going 4-0 in Pool B play including a run-rule victory over a tough Drummond team. But with Cowley Community College commit Ty Parker on the mound, the Mustangs cruised to victory. Parker had 10 strikeouts as the Mustangs run-ruled the Broncs 8-2 in 5 innings.

The win was also win number 700 for Pioneer Mustang Head Baseball Coach Dave Reisen.
