CTB Sports Director Derek Darr sat down with Pioneer Head Football Coach Gus Overstreet to talk about the upcoming season.
The coach began by sharing how spring practices went:
“Spring football went extremely well. I was kind of hesitant about how it was going to go, because we lost some real good key pieces senior-wise from last year, [and] on how our line was going to look, and two kids stepped up…especially in the guard roles. We came out, practiced, did everything, and got to do some more we couldn’t really do. I was really pleased with what we saw; the boys are hungry for what they want to do, and they believe in what’s in front of them and what they need to do.”
Coach Overstreet described the difficulty in B-2, especially with certain schools in the division:
“I think hands-down, yeah. Last year, I would say B-2 was the toughest because with Seiling and Weleekta being in there, B-2 was tough. Now, B-1, I think, is probably the toughest one to be in. Anybody can go get it. It’s just going to become just playing ball at best at that time, and also as long as the injury bug doesn’t come up and bite you….”
