Enid Plainsmen Baseball is gearing up to start the 2026 Class 6A baseball season with a home matchup against the Jenks Trojans on Monday evening.
First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. If you can’t come to David Allen Memorial Ballpark, then you can catch the action on CTB Sports 1390 KCRC, 1640 KZLS, the CTB Sports app and EnidLIVE.com. Pregame for the radio broadcast starts at 5:45 p.m.
The Plainsmen are hot off the heels of a 22-14 season in 2025, where the team came just one game shy of trip to the State Tournament. While the Plainsmen lost their fair share of talent in the offseason, including their top two starting pitchers in Israel Gonzalez and Aiden Robinson, the team also welcomes back a promising core of seven players from last year.
Six of those seven returners have experience pitching at the varsity level and each of them are expected to contribute on the bump. This includes top Oklahoma high school prospect Keon Young, fellow up-and-comer Jeron Dow and Coffeyville CC commits Heath Wisel and Dallas Darrow. Underclassmen hurlers like Cal Gore and Baylor Shaw will also aim to make strides in their second seasons with the program.
Enid also returns no shortage of talent in the field. The aforementioned Gore returns to the hot corner at third base following an impressive freshman campaign, Shaw will platoon at catcher with do-it-all Plainsmen veteran Zerek Slater and Dow is the most likely candidate to succeed Robinson at shortstop.
Several more underclassmen also have the potential to step into larger roles this season despite the mass of returning starters. Players like Matt Hoeltzel, Qa’im Butler, Hank Cecil and Jevin Fowler will all get a chance to cement themselves as “every game” guys for head coach Brad Gore.
The Plainsmen will have to deal with a very talented, newly formed District 6A-4 this year that includes Bartlesville, Bixby, Deer Creek, Muskogee, Putnam City North, Sand Springs and Union.
